Update Dec 29th

Update #3: The new version of redsn0w, redsn0w 0.9.10b3 fixes a problem where re-running redsn0w over an existing jailbreak would cause MobileSubstrate-based apps to stop running until MS was installed again. Now you can re-run the redsn0w jailbreak step without worrying about that (but still remember to de-select the “Install Cydia” option if it’s already installed).
TIP: If auto-detection fails and redsn0w tells you no identifying data was found, you can always pre-select the appropriate 5.0.1 IPSW using “Extras->Select IPSW”.

Alrighty everyone ! Its here, the 5.0.1 jailbreak has just been released 27 minutes ago using the new redsn0w 0.9.10b1 and we got the step by step and video ready for you.

This jailbreak supports all A4 devices including the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G and the iPad 1 on iOS 5.0.1 and is fully untethered, no more connecting to the pc or mac to get your device to boot ! Finally, great job to both the iPhone Dev team and the Chronic Dev team.

Hello, as expected, the Chronic Dev Team and the iPhone Dev Team have released the A4 untethered for 5.0.1 based on my work.

It is exactly the same set of files, either distributed as a Cydia package for those that are already tethered or a redsn0w bundle for new users.

They both did a great job testing and integrating the payload.

If you need to unlock and untether 5.0.1, make sure you build the custom ipsw using this new redsn0w 0.9.10b1, as described in our previous unlock 5.0.1 article.

Ok so here is the step by step.

0. Update to 5.0.1 using iTunes, or using the custom ispw like i mentioned in the link above if you are going to need an unlock.

1. Download redsn0w

2. Start redsn0w

3. select the jailbreak button

4. follow instructions to put into DFU mode

5. let redsn0w do its work

All done !
