Although there is support for the latest firmware, this jailbreak comes in a tethered flavor. Meaning every time you reboot your Apple TV you will have to connect up through the USB port to start the AppleTV up. This for many like myself is not a big deal, since my Apple TV never turns off.  The standard power draw on the Apple TV is about 2-5 watts, which equals out to $3.50 to have it turned on throughout the whole year.

Ok so lets get started.

Requirements :

- This jailbreak works with both Windows and OS X so download the correct version from the top right corner of this page.
- You will also need the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer.
- You will also need a micro USB cable

I’ll assume  you have the two things above downloaded to your desktop and the micro USB cable,  now we can proceed.

1. Close iTunes, and launch SeasonPass.
2. Select the Create IPSW button

3. At this point Seasonpass will connect to online and download the latest IPSW to create the custom firmware.

4. Next you will be prompted to connect your AppleTV, only connect the USB cable, not the power cable
5. Using the supplied silver remote control, press the MENU and PLAY/PAUSE button together for seven seconds until the small light on the front of the Apple TV flashes rapidly.

6. iTunes should recognize the device and automatically open and start the restore process using the custom firmware created

Now your AppleTV is jailbroken, however you need to still boot it up in to a jailbreak state, to enable the use of the jailbreak features. So …

To boot your Apple TV 2G tethered follow the instructions below.

0. Disconnect your device if you just jailbroke it using the instruction above.

1. Close iTunes and start SearsonPass, this time select the Boot Tethered Button

2. Again follow the instructions to put the device into DFU mode.

3. When you have booted, connect the power cable, and then disconnect the USB cable.

You’re all done.

While most of the Siri features do work for international users, only the US residence get to enjoy Siri Location Bases search. This is a restriction that’s been put in place by Apple, ever since the 4S first launched, since Siri is still in ‘Beta’. So not only do you need the iPhone 4S to get Siri in the first place, you also need to located in the US to enjoy location based searches.

Until today

A new jailbreak tweak released this weekend by the name of ‘International Locations for Siri’, bypasses this Siri restriction put in place by Apple. Not only can does it work up here in Canada, but it enables location based search for ALL 4S users all around the world. You need to understand that Siri currently uses the Google to pull its location based search results, so your results will vary based on how much data Google has scraped from your country.

To install the tweak, simply head to Cydia and search for ‘International Locations for Siri’, and install. This tweak is $0.99 but well worth it to get the full capability out of Siri.

Check it out, Siri can finally show you that there are way too many Tim Hortons in Canada.

This latest versions allows the user to downgrade your iPhone 4S and iPad 2:)

Downgrading both these devices back to 5.0.1, restores the ability to jailbreak the devices once again.  Even though we’ve been able to downgrade the first generation iPad and all the other iPhones / iPods, any A5 chip has not had this luxury. This means if you accidentally upgraded your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 to 5.1, then you’ve lost your jailbreak ability. However with this new version of Redsn0w we now have that option.

Ok so lets go over the requirements.

- you must have your SHSH blobs saved for 5.0.1 in Cydia to qualify for the downgrade, watch my video here to see how you can check if you have blobs saved in cydia
- download the correct iOS 5.1.1 firmware for your device & the firmware you want to downgrade to, from our iOS firmware download page
- download redsn0w for windows or mac

Lets start.

1. Connect your device to your computer then shutdown iTunes

2. First select the ‘Extras’ button

3. Next select the ‘Even more’ button at the bottom

4. Next select the ‘Restore’ button

5. Now we’re going to select the IPSW button, at which point redsn0w will ask you for the firmware that you downloaded from our iOS firmware download page

6. Last step is to select Local or Remote, if you have your SHSH backed up locally you can select local, otherwise select remote to connect to Cydia (95% of users pick this)

Almost done, click next and let Redsn0w create the custom IPSW and restore your device to the chosen firmware.

Done.

Once you are downgrade to 5.0.1, you can now fully jailbreak your iPad 2 and iPhone 4S using my 5.0.1 Absinthe video tutorials here.

Important Note

The A5 downgrade method actually updates to the latest firmware before downgrading to the earlier one. This process updates your baseband to whatever is newest.  DO NOT USE THIS METHOD IF YOU RELY ON UNOFFICIAL UNLOCKS of your iPhone4S. Those who used the temporary SAM technique to unlock their iPhones to specific SIMs shouldn’t be affected by this baseband update.

Just a few hours we posted an article which describes how to unlock any iPhone using the SAM Activation Method to trick iTunes into unlocking your Apple iPhone.

Now the Dev Team has just released a tool which will allow you to save your SAM tickets which will allow future unlocks. The tool has been bundled with the latest release of Redsn0w.

So lets get to it.

Assuming you already unlock your iPhone, you can follow the step below.

1. Download Redsn0w (Win / Mac)

2. Connect your iPhone to the computer and start up Redsn0w

3. Click the Extras button then Even more then Backup

4. Next you’ll be prompted to enter the folder to backup, the default right folder is already in there so all you have to do is hit enter.

Redsn0w will backup your SAM tickets into a zip file so that you can use them at a later point, crucial if you value your unlock.

I suggest you backup as soon as possible, since this is the first time we’ve been able to unlock firmware that is current, and not 6+ months old.

Its been a while since we’ve heard news about any new iPhone carrier unlocks from the jailbreak developers. So you can see why the news this weekend from the Dev Team’s member @musclenerd brought a smile to the jailbreak community. Musclenerd confirmed that a chinese developer named, Loktar_Sun, has discovered a way to unlock any jailbroken iPhone using the assistance of the Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM) BY Sam Binger. The requirements are pretty simple, make sure your not on any IMEI blacklists, and make sure your iPhone is jailbroken. Assuming that your device is already jailbroken, lets get right to it.

It’s been a while since i’ve written an unlock guide, so this also puts a smile on my face.

1. First we need to add the cydia source. Goto Cydia ->Manage->Sources and click edit, then add and http://repo.bingner.com

2. Insert the sim card that you want to use, that’s currently not supported by your device.

3. Start SAM by using the icon, or going to settings and starting it through there.

4. Goto utilities and select “De-Activate iPhone”

5. With SAM enabled, choose “By Country and Carrier” in “Method”; find your carrier, for some carriers operating more than one Carrier ID you may need to select “SIM ID”; easy to tell since iTunes will not activate if the wrong IMSI is selected.

6. Next connect your iPhone to Itunes and let it activate, then close up iTunes.

7. Still in SAM, click more information and then click “Spoof Real SIM to SAM”

8. Disable SAM

9. Connect your iPhone to your computer and start iTunes, and let it go through the activation process, you will get an error this is normal, close iTunes next.

Now wait, if you did everything right you should see signal bars within 30-60 seconds.

For now this works great, but remember since you’ve spoofed the ICCID your iPhone will now only work with that sim card, if you need to switch to another sim you will have to repeat the process.

Note from the developers

You should save your unlock tickets possible future unlocks, because you know Apple will patch this sooner or later.

To Backup your unlock tickets.

You will need to browse to /var/Root/Library/Lockdown and make a copy of everything that’s in there.

MusicBanners is 100% free and can be found over in Cydia.

To install simply, start cydia, search for “MusicBanners” and then hit install.

Once installed you will see no new App icon on the screen, really there is nothing that you can configure for this App, it’s all preconfigured.

The gist of this tweak is pretty simple, when a new track starts up in your iPod Music playlist, MusicBanners will throw an instant notification which will provide the Artist name, the Song name and the Album cover.

Pretty useful when you are using a shuffled playlist and you want to identify what’s on without having to unlock your device every time.

Well now you can. Today I stumbled across a new tweak in cydia called PhotoEnchancer.

PhotoEnchancer is 100% free and can be found in Cydia.

Once installed, let your iPhone or iPad respiring for the changes to go into effect.

Now that you have PhotoEnchancer installed,  you can head over to your photo App and to practice on a few test photos.

To hide the photos simply select the ones that you want to hide, click the edit button and then click hide, pretty simple right ?

This app is still in the early stages, but it gets the job done, hopefully in the near future we’ll see a password protected version come out, to keep those photos extra secure.
