In this article we’ll cover how to jailbreak iOS 3.1.3 – 4.0 using the windows software sn0wbreeze 2.0.2, Sn0wbreeze is one of the tools which can preserve your baseband. Meaning when you update you have the ability to keep your Baseband (modem firmware) at the same software version, while everything else updates. Sn0wbreeze runs on the Windows platform, to update and preserve your baseband on the Mac OSX platform use Pwnagetool.

Sn0wbreeze 2.0.2  supports iOS 3.1.3 on the following devices

- iPhone 2G & iPod Touch 2G

- iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3GS

- iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G

Sn0wbreeze 2.0.2  supports iOS 4.0 on the following devices

- iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS

- iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4G

Now lets go through the tutorial.

1. Backup your software, connect to iTunes and backup your device, just incase you want to restore, or if something fails during the jailbreak process.

2. Download Sn0wbreeze from the top right corner of this page, and download the firmware 3.1.3 – 4.0 from our firmware section.

3. Start Sn0wbreeze and select the Expert Mode

4. You should now get prompted to select your firmware, select the firmware you downloaded in STEP 2, your selection will be verified and you should get a green checkmark and blue arrow to goto the next step

5. Optional, if you are on an unofficial carrier select hacktivate your phone  under the General area

6. Select build and wait for the firmware to build

Now what you have here is a custom firmware for your device which will be jailbroken and which will not update your baseband.

To install the firmware simply

- connect your device to your Mac or PC

- put your device in to DFU mode

- click shift(pc) or option(mac) + restore in iTunes and select the firmware that you have just created.

Now give it some time, you should get a bunch of progress bars on your device but in about 10 minutes it should be restored and jailbroken.

To restore  your data, restore the device using iTunes back that you’ve made in step 1.
