Greenp0ison jailbreak Video & Text Guide
Apple just release iOS firmware version 5.0.1 yesterday which is suppose to address any battery issues with iOS 5. Few hours later, we have a jailbreak. Even though this is a tethered jailbreak, its still better then no jailbreak, so if are one of those who just can’t live without their jailbreak features, then this article is for you.
This is a tethered jailbreak, meaning you have to connect your device to the computer each time it restarts and boot it into tethered mode. The redsn0w release works in OSX and Windows, in windows run as administrator to avoid any problems.
Download links as always in the top right corner of this article.
Devices supported
- iPhone 3GS / 4
- iPad
- iPod Touch 3G/4G
IOS Supported
- iOS 5.0.1
- iOS 5.0
- iOS 4.3.4
- iOS 4.3.5
- iOS 4.2.10
- iOS 4.2.9
Step 1.
Simply connect your device to USB and let iTunes upgrade your device to iOS 5.0.1.
Step 2.
Download the 5.0 firmware for your device from our iOS firmware download page.
Step 3.
Once you are uploaded to iOS 5.0.1, we can start the jailbreak process, first you will need to start up Redsn0w that you downloaded from the top right corner of this article.
Step 4.
Click the “Extras” folder, then select “Select IPSW” then choose the 5.0 firmware downloaded inĀ step 3.
Step 5.
Now go back and click the Jailbreak Button on the main screen.
Step 4.
Once you see the instructions to put the device into DFU mode, follow them and put the device into DFU mode
Step 5.
At this point, redsn0w will see your device in DFU mode and it’ll start working. Let Redsn0w do its work, when complete you will reboot and have a Cydia icon on the desktop. However you will not be able to launch it, why ? because you need to start up redsn0w again and boot it into tethered jailbreak mode, because the device rebooted at the end of the jailbreak, this means that you need to boot it again with redsn0w to get access to the jailbreak features, i.e. Cydia.
To boot into tethered mode from now on,
Start redsn0w and select the extra folder, this time select boot tethered option and again put your device into dfu mode, this will start your device and you will see a pine apple instead of a regular apple during the boot process, this is how you know you are booting into jailbreak mode
So you are now jailbroken, if your Cydia is white its because you didn’t do a tethered boot after the jailbreak.
UNLOCKERS :
If you are unlocking with the GEVEY sim or for future ultrasn0w unlocks, you will need to update by creating a custom .IPSW(firmware) file. This will allow you to preserve your baseband and will allow the unlock functionality using the tools stated before.
To do this, start up Redsn0w again and head into the “Extras” folder again, then select the “Custom IPSW” and now select your 5.0.1 firmware file. At this point leave Redsn0w alone and let it work.
When complete you will need to enter DFU mode, you can do this with redsn0w [Extras > Pwnage DFU] and when your iPhone goes into DFU mode, head over to iTunes and restore the iPSW file you just created. Now when you boot up, tethered again don’t forget, you will be able to unlock your phone.
