It’s been an exciting month for the jailbreak community. With the recent release of Absinthe user have finally been able to jailbreak their devices running on iOS 5.1.1. Although we already have a how to jailbreak 5.1.1 guide, some users have been experiencing some difficulties using Absinthe on their computers. So today we’ll look at a new version of the Redsn0w tool just released from the Dev Team.
This version works on both Windows and Mac and supports the following devices:
- iPhone 3G
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 4S
- iPad 1
- iPad 2
- iPad 3
- iPod Touch 2G
- iPod Touch 3G
- iPod Touch 4G
from the dev team :
redsn0w allows owners of A4+earlier devices to install rocky-racoon two different ways:
We’ve also added a new redsn0w feature specifically for those who got in on the SAM unlock: you can now include your SAM tickets as part of your initial ramdisk jailbreak of iPhone4 or earlier, or alternatively you can upload your SAM tickets to any device after its been jailbroken. redsn0w accepts either the individual SAM activation ticket plist file, or the entire zip file created by redsn0w’s “Backup” button. As usual, redsn0w continues to cover all of its previous jailbreaks and untethers (so redsn0w-0.9.12b1 covers everything from 5.1.1 all the way back to 4.1).
Step 1. Download Redsn0w from the top right corner of this page
Step 2. Start Redsn0w
Step 3. Click the Jailbreak Button
Step 4. If your device is on 5.1.1 make sure its plugged in, if you are on previous firmware turn off your device and then plug it in
Step 5. Select Next, then proceed to follow the onscreen instructions to put your device into DFU mode. If you need help we have a how to guide here.
That’s it. You are now jailbroken !
