Update 1 : If you cant open cydia, you didnt boot tethered
Redsn0w 0.9.7b4 has just been released. And it works !
Ok so this version supports iPhone 4, iPad, iPod Touch 4G on 4.2.1
requirements
- you need to have access to a mac computer
- you must have you 4.2b3 SHSH saved on file, check this video to see if you have your saved
- download Redsn0w 0.9.7b4, 4.2.1 firmware, and the beta 3 firmware
If you miss any of these steps it will not work, so its crucial you follow every step exacly.
1. do a fresh to stock iOS 4.2.1 via itunes
2. start Redsn0w 0.9.7b4 and select the 4.2.1 firmware
3. choose ONLY to install cydia
4. click next, put the device in DFU mode and let it restart
5. you will see that the phone will start booting with the Apple logo, this means its not booting tethered, start Redsn0w select firmware, select boot tethered ONLY and put phone in DFU mode, this is called booting your phone tethered
6. connect to your WIFI
7. When you boot the phone correctly, with pineapple logo, it will allow you to start cydia, start cydia, click the changes tab and click to update all and let it install, this will reboot your phone yet again
8. boot your phone tethered again, like in step 5
9. Start cydia and install OPENSSH
10. Start Redsn0w for the last time, select the 4.2.1 firmware, click next, select ONLY the Jailbreak monte option, at this point it will prompt you for firmware again, select the 4.2b3 firmware, then proceed to put your phone into DFU mode, the process will begin
Give it a few minutes, and now your device will be Jailbroken on 4.2.1 and untethered !
