How to use Siri to update Twitter & Facebook status

Posted in How Tos on January 31, 2012

Ok so you’ve had your lovely iPhone 4S, and I bet you’ve been chatting a lot with Siri.

Well as you may have found out like myself, Siri cannot interact with Facebook or Twitter at all. You would think that with the Twitter integration you would be able to read your tweets, or at least update them, but, you can’t. However there has been a workaround that surfaced this morning thanks to RedmondPie. This trick addresses the limitation, and allows you to update your Twitter and Facebook status, using the Siri.

It’s all pretty simple really.

To enable Twitter

1. Login to your Twitter account, select settings

2. Click the Mobile Tab, select your country, enter your phone number, and click start

3.  Now follow the instructions to verify your cell phone.

To enable Facebook

1. Login to Facbeook, then select account settings from the top right corner

2. Next select mobile

3. Next select Add Phone, then enter in your phone number and click next

4. Proceed to verify your cell phone using their SMS verification method

Now that we have our phone verified with Facebook and Twitter we can almost start making updates using Siri. There is just one more step. Simply add “Facebook” to your phone contacts with the contact number from step 3, in my case its 32665, and “Twitter” with the number 40404, this will allow Siri to detect the voice commands associated to Facebook and Twitter.

Normally when you ask Siri to Tweet or updated your Facebook status, you will hear a “I don’t understand you” response, from the lovely lady. But now that you’ve verified your phone, and added your 2 contacts, you can simply tell Siri to “Send Facebook a message” or “Send Twitter a message”. This will in actuality just send a SMS to twitter or Facebook, updating your current status using the content of the message.
