One of the neat new features that Apple is working on, is panorama support inside the camera App. Although not yet released, developers have found a way to enable the feature in iOS 5.0. Now this is great for all the jailbroken users as there’s a cydia app to enable this feature as well. But today we’ll talk about how to enable it on the unjailbroken iPhone 4S and iPad 2.
You can do this in windows or osx so its up to you.
I’ll give you the write up and the video, so there no excuse you can’t do this yourself.
You will need to have iTunes installed as well as iBackupBot. The demo works fine as you just need to edit one file.
now we’re ready to go.
1. Connect your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 to your computer and fire up iTunes, then right click on the device and click backup, this will run a backup on your device
2. Once backup is complete, shut down iTunes and fire up iBackupBot
3. iBackupBot will automatically find your backup and list it in the left pane, click on your backup, you should be able to find it by the date
4. When you open the backup by selecting it, you will see a bunch of files, search for
com.apple.mobileslideshow.plist and open it, click cancel during the demo popup
5. Find the line below
<key>DiskSpaceWasLow</key>
<false/>
and add
<key>EnableFirebreak</key>
<true/>
below it.
Then hit save, and close the editor window.
6. Now back to iBackupBot window and right click on the backup in the left pane again and select restore and let the software restore your backup.
Your phone will reboot and you will have access to the panorama feature, it will be listed under HDR in the camera app.
Just a quick note, from using the app myself, performance is pretty good but if you look at the image below, note that if you want to capture the monitor like i do in my image, i must make sure its out of the white frame before i hit the shutter, if i start it under the white frame like the left pic, i will only get the right edge. As it only scans the area on the right side of the white frame.
