How to Jailbreak Apple TV 2nd Gen 5.3 (6.1.4 10B809) [Tethered]

Seas0nPass has just updated there software to give Apple TV users running the latest 5.3 (6.1.4 10B809)  firmware a tethered Jailbreak.

What’s a tethered Jailbreak?

A tethered jailbreak requires the iOS device to be plugged into a computer when turned on. If the iDevice is not plugged into a computer and booted with special software the device will not enter a jailbroken state. Don’t get this mixed up with ‘re-springing’ , as these are 2 totally different things. If you res-pring your iOS device your Jailbreak is still ok, it’s all about power.

Thats enough of the jibber jabber….let’s get on with the Jailbreak.

Make sure you are running the latest iTunes, and have the correct Seas0nPass software downloaded.

Once you have the above done, your ready to go.

  • Navigate to where you have downloaded the latest Seas0nPass on your PC and open it. [We suggest you download the SeasonPass tool to your desktop]

  • Select the ‘Create IPSW’ button to start the jailbreak process. We are not interested in the ‘Boot Tethered’ just yet.

  • The latest Apple TV software will be downloaded and used to create a custom ‘jailbroken’ software file just for you!

When asked, connect your Apple TV to your Mac/PC using a micro-USB cable [leave power cable disconnected].Once the light on the front of the Apple TV begins to flash rapidly, point the remote at the Apple TV and hold both the MENU and PLAY/PAUSE buttons for approx 7 seconds.

  • iTunes will open automatically and start the custom restore process.Just sit tight!! Don’t touch anything

4iTunes will confirm the restore when complete!!

Your Apple TV is now jailbroken! :-) Now we are going to show you how to ‘Boot Tethered’ your Apple TV,as we mentioned before, you will need to do this ONLY when power is cut.

  • Open Seas0nPass again and select the ‘Boot Tethered’ option.

  • When prompted, connect the Apple TV to your computer via USB. Wait for the rapid flashing light then connect the power cable. Once both are connected hold both the ‘MENU’ and ‘PLAY/PAUSE’ buttons for 7 seven seconds.

  •  Seas0nPass will complete the tethered boot automatically. Once finished, remove the USB cable and connect the HDMI cable.

You have now successfully boot tethered your little box of joy. Not so hard was it?

Speaking from experience, the tethered Jailbreak for a Apple TV is not the same as an iPhone or iPad, with theApple TV you rarely turn the power off these as they are alwyas connected to the mains, whereas an iPhone or a iPad can lose power when your out meaning that it’s a pain in the ass! So we don’t frown upon a tetheredjailbreak for a Apple TV as much as one for a day to day iOS device.
